Sha Bhabootmal began trading dry fruits from a single counter in Sowcarpet, Chennai’s historic George Town trading quarter, in 1974, weighing almonds on a brass scale and keeping every account in a leather-bound ledger. What he built was more than a shop, it was a promise: that a customer would never need to check what they were buying, because the name on the bag already vouched for it.
A generation later, that promise is the only thing that hasn’t changed. We still hand-select at source, still refuse anything short of the best grade, and still sign every order the way our founder signed his ledgers, with pride.
One measure has never changed: would we serve it to our own family first?

How We Got Here
1974 – 1988
Origins
Sha Bhabootmal opens his first counter in Sowcarpet, sourcing almonds and raisins directly from trading caravans and weighing every order by hand.
1989 – 2003
Quality
SBS builds direct relationships with orchards in Kashmir, Afghanistan and Iran, setting sourcing standards still followed today.
2004 – 2017
Trust
The SBS name becomes a Sowcarpet fixture, a -star, 140-review favourite, trusted for weddings, festivals and everyday indulgence alike.
2018 – Today
Growth
The second generation carries SBS beyond Sowcarpet, expanding reach and reputation, without ever letting the ledger-book standard slip.
